It's lit! You surpassed your crowdfund goal. So The Lit. Bar opens tomorrow, right?
Thank you so much for supporting and investing in The Lit. Bar: where we will live out our literary & wino dreams in the Bronx. Every dollar you poured in and every share has an impact in helping us to turn the vision for our third space into reality.
Now, the real work begins. The funds raised via Indiegogo represent about a third of our start-up costs. Beginning April 10th (after some administrative duties, a trip to Oregon for the American Booksellers Association's Children's Institute, and some rest), we will get aggressive about securing a lease and a small business loan. Your wild support to-date let prospective property owners and lenders know that the Bronx means business! We are following up on several opportunities for a space and funding that didn't come easily before you backed us up.
We're striving to open our home by the fall (or this year should we need to run over any unexpected roadblocks). While working on the work, we're staying relevant in the press, creating/mailing your perks, and working our day jobs. Thank you for your patience as we catch up on several hundred of your congratulatory messages and inquiries.
I've connected to your strong social mission and want to help... for free!
Bless your heart for offering your precious time to this literary revolution. While we would love to accept everyone's pledge to help, as a for-profit business, we are ineligible to accept unpaid labor. There are probably exceptions out there as a social enterprise, but we'd like to play it safe with the Department of Labor. We are happy to discuss partnerships and collaborations.
Please subscribe to our email list below to receive community calls-to-action and stay updated on job opportunities.
I have books in great condition that I would love to give to your cause, rather then throwing away.
We sincerely appreciate your generosity; however, we are not accepting used book donations at this time. We will have several initiatives coming up where we'll be sending out calls-to-action for book donations. One of them includes building free little libraries all over the borough. If you haven't done so already, I invite you to join our email list below to receive these notices and stay updated on our progress.
How do I get my books/art on your shelves?
Our newsletters subscribers will be the first to know when we launch our author/artist consignment program with instructions on how to apply. Independent/local authors will always have a special place at The Lit. Bar. We can't wait to stock your titles and feature you for reading events and more.
